Working through a difficult year, the Alphas have shown great professionalism, determination and passion to create a club to represent Scunthorpe and the North Lincolnshire area.
BAFA believes that General Manager (GM) Warwick Grosvenor, aided by Assistant GM Nick Tomaszewski and the Alphas management and coaching squad, has established a sustainable, dynamic and competitive club.
In their final assessment, the Alphas and representatives of North Lincolnshire council presented a stadium facility with a fully marked pitch and conducted a COVID safe practice session split over two sessions with over 40 players and a full coaching staff. Game Day Manager Justine Robson ensured safe practice, while safeguarding and welfare was ably handled by Charlotte Tomaszewski.
Warren Smart, BAFA National Game Development Manager, said:
“Warwick and the Alphas have been working hard to ensure they can deliver on BAFA’s policy of sustainability and forward thinking. Head Coach Alex Robson has built a solid staff of coaches with the ambition to enter the league next year not just as new boys, but a competitive team from the off.
“The association process has been particularly difficult in this trying year, but we are looking to think outside of the box to help continue growing the sport.
“I will now turn my focus towards two further teams that are looking to complete their confirmation to full playing at adult contact level, alongside several teams in flag and contact from the other age groups.”
Warwick Grosvenor, Scunthorpe Alphas General Manager, said:
“The whole Alphas organisation and I are overwhelmed with gratitude for Warren and BAFA’s decision. The associate process has been incredibly challenging, and rightly so – at the Alphas we have always acknowledged and fully agree with the need to demonstrate sustainability, sound financial management, and of course most importantly safe coaching, training and playing practices.
“Other teams who have recently secured league status such as Hereford, Northants and Inverclyde are outstanding set-ups and have demonstrated that the associate process results in strong, sustainable programs.
“As GM, I’d like to give my sincere thanks to Warren for all of his support and guidance over the past nine months, our sponsors for their faith in us, and to everyone else who has supported us and mentored us along the way – including our friends at the University of Nottingham and Sheffield Giants.”
BAFA is committed to applying the standards of safeguarding, future planning and managing clubs in the correct way through the associate process as we continue to grow our sport sustainably and for the long-term.
